Just checking the date – nope not 1st April.
Difficult to comment without seeing an actual layout but how does this work safely for those who live along there. They are going to be in the middle of the signals with no indications of when it is safe to move, no detection to assist them – sounds like a safety nightmare. Many terraced streets are like that and there’s no easy answer – I’ve known houses be demolished to provide off-street parking. I could suggest all sorts of things to consider like displaced parking, staggered parking etc but signals wouldn’t ever be one of them.
A local member has requested signals on a long terraced housing street in order to reduce the congestion and chaos that is common on such streets with parking on both sides. Making the street one way is out of the option for various reasons, but I’m sure this isn’t the first request for such a provision. Obviously, we’re not in favour of the shuttle working option but just wanted to see if other engineers have had any such requests and what their thoughts/feelings are?
