There are plenty of instances out there of crossings which are closer to side roads than that; one of the things I would consider a “safety” implication is whether 20m would put the crossing off the desire line and thus dissuade more people from using it.

One for me that springs to mind is here: https://goo.gl/maps/MuwARcVexWJ2 and while I couldnt comment on its current “safety”, it didnt have an appreciable record back in the day and the two side roads are very busy at school times, for obvious reasons.

In fact I will raise the Grimsby example with a couple of very busy (ped AND traffic) sites in my own area, which have an excellent safety record in comparison to some other sites, here https://goo.gl/maps/JzuT8r6omT72 and here https://goo.gl/maps/2ZQYPysX12Q2

Does anyone have any figures to back up ‘our’ stance that Mid-block crossings should be located as stated in LTN 2/95 2.1.1.1, 20m away from a side road.
