Hi Dave,

When designing controlled crossing on roads with speeds over 40mph, the designer should refer to CD 143 (DMRB) and the design should fully comply with the required standards.

It would be advantageous at this early stage to inform your Client that appendix E/4.4 states that stand-alone signal controlled crossings for pedestrians and cyclists shall not be provided were the 85th percentile speed exceeds 50mph.
