One way to over come the complaints is to explain that the display should be mounted in a manner that allows the pedestrian to see the on coming traffic and the pedestrian display at the same time. The ‘wait’ on the right hand side is primarily for the visually impaired and is fitted with a tactile rotating cone to enable those visually impaired pedestrians to cross the road ( I am assuming that you do have a wait on the right handside fitted with a tactile). Any pedestrians are more than welcome to use this facility.

Found that this has done the trick in the past.
