When we first needed a metered supply, for a rising bollard installation, we investigated and found a neat little smart meter which would have fitted easily into the controller case. However, the supply company insisted that we provide a separate meter cabinet big enough to house whatever they had knocking about in their depot, complete with a special padlock to which they had a key. Hence a cabinet taking up as much space as a controller, which they never accessed once, every reading was a customer one. We finally took the rest of the system out when the buses stopped using the bus gate it was protecting. I think the cabinet is still there waiting for them to come and retrieve their equipment, though they have finally given up trying to get us to pay a standing charge.
